Not just an "average" day in the hunter

16 September 2008

Thirteen years ago, after learning that on an average day in Australia 5000 children are injured and 100 children are hospitalised, former teacher, Susie O'Neill wanted to do something to reduce the number of childhood injuries. This was the beginning of the KIDS foundation in Victoria, a unique charity dedicated to injury prevention and recovery of children with burns and other life-changing injuries. Thanks to ReSco Foundation's two year $70,000 partnership, this program will now be offered to the Hunter Region, helping to prevent an average day.

The key objective of the partnership between the KIDS Foundation and ResCo is to reduce the number of injuries to children and assist the KIDS Foundation to deliver services to people with burns and other life changing injuries in the Hunter region.

Susie O'Neill, Founder and Director of the KIDS Foundation said "the KIDS Foundation is delighted to bring the KIDS Foundation's 'Think Safe, Play Safe' message to the Hunter Region and engage pre-school and school community in safety." "The partnership will also provide additional support to children with burns and other life changing injuries and their families in the Hunter region.

At the media conference to launch the partnership, Craig Ransley the Executive Chairman of ResCo was proud to be a partner to such a great organisation. "Safety is a top priority in everything we do as a company. We encourage all our employees to think safety awareness at all times and now we are a part of bringing that message to the future of the Hunter Region, our children."

ResCo demonstrates its committment to managing fatigue in the workplace

September 2008

Working in heavy industry carries with it a profound responsibility to provide a safe work environment but this doesn't just stop at the mine gate. When you have people working long shifts, alternating shifts patterns of day and night and in remote locations, those factors contribute significantly to extending that responsibility all the way to the front door.

Fatigue has been recognised by the industry for a long time as a significant threat to the health, safety and well being of workers in this industry. In recognition of this ResCo is looking to instigate innovative solutions and to this end we have purchased buses capable of transporting workers between their workplace and their home. Previously they would have travelled separately or in several vehicles but they can now travel together and assist each other in managing fatigue by providing appropriate breaks for the drivers.

Ribbon in the playground

Muswellbrook Chronicle, 4 July 2008

STAFF and students at Muswellbrook South Public School were excited to officially open their new playground yesterday.

The new playground and equipment were formally opened by Federal Member for Hunter Joel Fitzgibbon and ResCo Services managing director Craig Ransley.

Various other official guests attended the ceremony, which was postponed from earlier in the year due to unforeseen weather conditions.

The school gained the support of ResCo Services in the construction of the facilities.

ResCo donated the funds to allow the playground to be established and Mr Ransley formally addressed the students yesterday on behalf of the company.

Mr Fitzgibbon recognised the uniqueness of the funding as usually he opens school projects that are government funded. "It is very good to see the mining companies putting something back into the community," Mr Fitzgibbon said.

"It is important to continue to invest into our public schools to ensure children have the best possible chance of a good education," he said.

Principal, Ian Ralston and school leaders took the official guests on a tour of the new playground before morning tea.

Resco Services completes another two acquisitions

Shortlist.net, 17th September 2007

Craig Ransley's specialist mining labour hire and equipment supply company Resco Services has completed another two acquisitions to push its annual revenue above $100 million.

Resco CEO Craig Ransley confirmed that the company has acquired NSW-based black coal underground mining specialist Eastern Mining and specialist mining engineering services business Kelmech Engineering Services.

Both are based in NSW's Hunter Valley.

Eastern Mining supplies high-end mining equipment (including continuous miners) and skilled operators and mining labour, and Kelmech is a specialist in coal mine maintenance, shutdowns and major fabrication projects.

Ransley said the two acquisitions, together with existing business, would put Resco Services on target for about $100 million annual revenue.

He said Resco was negotiating with another five specialist mining labour and equipment supply businesses with combined turnover of another $130 million. He said these were in both metalliferous mining and the oil and gas industry.

He said funding for the acquisitions was being provided by both Resco's shareholders and through an equity finance package arranged with Westpac.

He said Westpac was an equity partner and was also financing equipment purchase and acquisitions.

Ransley said Resco hoped to build its revenue to around $350 to $400 million over the next few years.

Mining contacts, labour knowledge crucial for Resco

Ransley told Shortlist that one of Resco's advantages was its in-depth knowledge of mining, particularly in black coal, and the directors' experience in industrial relations in the mining industry (its chairman is former CFMEU mining division president, John Maitland).

Ransley said Resco was a "workers capital" company and would offer a range of bonus systems, and shadow equity schemes for both employed and on-hire workers.

Ransley's Resco Services gets underway

Shortlist.net, 8th August 2007

Former TESA Group CEO Craig Ransley has officially launched his new specialist mining services and labour hire company Resco Services.

Ransley and his co-investors sold labour hire company TESA Group to Skilled for $62 million last year.

As reported - besides former long-serving CFMEU president John Maitland, who is chairman of Resco - Ransley has assembled an experienced team, including former Bradken CFO Andrew Poole (who successfully took Bradken to its ASX listing four years ago) as executive director, former senior Bradken executive Jeff Williams as CFO, specialist mergers and acquisitions lawyer Stacey Noonan as group general counsel, and Ransley's former IT specialist at TESA, David Williams as Resco's CIO.

Noonan's expertise is currently being put to good use, as Resco is following an aggressive acquisition strategy to build its business.

Ransley confirmed to Shortlist this week that the group was concluding a number of acquisitions which would be announced shortly.

Former TESA boss back in business

Shortlist.net, 13th June 2007

The founder and former CEO of the highly-successful labour hire company TESA Group, Craig Ransley, plans to launch a new business providing a wide range of services to the mining industry.

Just a year after he and his shareholders sold TESA to SKILLED Group for $62 million in cash, Ransley confirmed to Shortlist he would be launching a new business under the name ResCo Services in July.

Rather than purely labour hire, Ransley said the new venture would provide a much broader range of services to the resources industry including maintenance, shut-down services, and plant and equipment.

He said ResCo might provide some on-hire labour if required.

Ransley conceded he was bound by some non-compete restraints following the sale to SKILLED, but said he was "very confident" that his new business plans were not in breach of those provisions.

ResCo Services directors also include former Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union president John Maitland.

Despite its long-term public stance against the concept of labour hire, the CFMEU was a key shareholder in the TESA business and made a substantial return on its investment.

Maitland retired from the union last year.

Ransley and his team built TESA to revenue of $165 million and EBITDA of $8.5 million when it was acquired by SKILLED.

He confirmed he had a number of acquisitions planned to start his new business rolling.

Ransley and his partners have extensive knowledge of the work practices and service requirements of the resources sector, particularly the black coal industry.

But he said ResCo would be a full "mining services company" catering for the oil and gas, metalliferous mining and coal industries.
